Present Simple Tense

SIMPLE PRESENT

We use simple present when we talk about an action in the present as well as a routine or an action set by a timetable.



Examples

Affirmative sentences
When you talk about he, she and it, you have to add an -s to the verb
  • I work on weekdays
  • You go to the gym on Mondays and Tuesdays
  • We study English everyday
  • They live in Santiago
  • The bookstore (it) opens at 9:00 AM
  • Susan goes to school on weekdays
  • He works in an office
Negative sentences.
For negative sentences you have to use the auxiliary verbs don't and doesn't with the appropriate subject.

Don't (I - you - we - they )
Doesn't ( he - she - it )


  • I don't like pasta
  • You don't speak french
  • We don't wash our clothes
  • They don't live in Buenos Aires
  • She doesn't work in a factory
  • He doesn't have a cell phone
  • It doesn't matter
